The laundry service is provided to daily to services users in the Westside and surrounding areas of Galway city which are over 55. The service consists of, washing/drying service and a dry only service we are the only service that collect from the client’s home daily. This service is run from 8.30am to 5pm, Monday to Thursday, and from 8.30am to 4pm on Friday. Price is available on request.
This on-going service is offered to older people over 55 persons living in the Westside and surrounding area of Galway city who are not physically able to carry out basic home maintenance including: Lawn Cutting/Hedge Cutting/ painting /window cleaning/ changing bulbs/locks and other simple repairs. This is operated by 2-part time staff member. There is a small charge on this service. Client can avail of this service by calling the office which will give information on our prices and work schedule.
The office carries out all the administration work of the project and keeps rotas, worksheets and other records as required. The office also maintains regular contact with PHNs, HSE primary care teams, Galway City Council, Meals on Wheels and other agencies to enable us to deliver our services to our clients on a daily base. We also provide assistance with applying for grants available for home improvements, insulation and all social welfare needs such carers allowance forms, disability forms, medical card forms.
This service was introduced in 2011 and is run from the Westside resource centre every Wednesday from 1pm to 4pm active. The club has 23 regular users and is delivered every second week by 2 staff members and 2 volunteers. Some service users are picked up from their homes if no transport is available, but must be in the Westside area for pickup. service users have a hot meal in the club which is provided by community catering. we have regular activities each week such as bingo and on occasion we have someone come to do some workshop such as / Flower arrangement. / Cookery/. The cost of the club is €8 per week for the meal and bingo. WAI pays for the running of the club with the aid of grants received.
This social monitored alarm is provided to people over 65 years in the Galway city and county area of Galway reaching as far out as Ballinasloe to Spiddal , with only the monitor fee to be paid by the client yearly. With this service 24hr help is provided 7 days a week in the event of any emergency. In our experience, this scheme has been an invaluable lifeline to older people living alone. This service is grant aided by the Dept. of the Environment, Community and local government.
This services approx. 90 clients per week and is delivered by 4 members of staff on a five day a week basis. This service offers home support such as light cleaning, shopping/social welfare supports as well as visitation to vulnerable clients for a chat or to keep an eye on them to insure their welfare is safe with in their homes. There is a small charge on this service and is referral only from the primary care teams.
